Packout Compact Tool Box - M18 Battery Rack UPPER Insert (DIGITAL 3D PRINT FILE ONLY)

THIS IS A DIGITAL STL FILE FOR 3D PRINTING NOT A PHYSICAL PRODUCT. You will not receive a physical product, this is a digital 3D file so you can personally 3D print your own insert.

This is a custom insert that I have designed to fit your Milwaukee Packout Compact Tool Box to storing your M18 Batteries! It specifically fits the Milwaukee 48228422 PACKOUT Compact Tool Box: https://www.milwaukeetool.com.au/storage/packout/tool-boxes/48228422.html

Features:

  • Easy Storage - My design provides a compact and protected storage solution for your assortment of M18 Batteries! The insert simply drops in from the top and sits securely on the provided lip inside. It functions in the exact same way as the stock drop in tray that comes with the box.
  • Handles - Recessed handles are provided at each end of the insert to help you with lifting out the insert and access gear in the bottom of the box. Two additional handles are provided along the sides for extra options as well as a lip that runs the entire side for extra grip.
  • Snap In Place - Your batteries will clip in place just like on your M18 tools! You can turn the entire insert upside down and the batteries won't move at all. To insert, push the battery into the slot as you would with your tools. To remove press the side buttons to release just like with your tools and lift up.
  • Ergonomics - It was a tight fit but I was able to fit slots for EIGHT M18 Batteries! To aid in the ergonomics, the endmost batteries in the corner have recessed channels to allow for better accessibility of fingers to release the batteries. This way you can maximise your use of space rather than sacrificing two slots and only fitting 6 batteries.
  • M18 Batteries - Designed to fit standard M18 Redlithium batteries ranging from 1.5AH to 5.0AH. More details provided below.

Battery Compatibility:

It specifically fits the standard M18 Redlithium batteries ranging from 1.5AH to 5.0AH. The design won't support sizes larger than 5.0 purely due to the huge increase in weight those batteries would add. As the design supports being lifted out to access gear stored underneath, anything heavier than eight 5.0 batteries may present an issue for the structural integrity of the print.

(I am developing a design to sit in the bottom of this same Ammo Can Packout that can support the larger standard Redlithium batteries and should support 2.0 up to 12.0AH. This will be ready in around a month’s time).

High Output and Forge Note - I have not been able to test the new M18 Forge Batteries or M18 High Output Batteries. My research indicates these are larger/wider batteries thus wouldn't fit in this design due to the bigger footprint.

Print Settings and Assembly Notes:

When loaded to max capacity with eight 5.0 batteries, there is a lot of weight needing to be supported. For those printing the design in halves, I have some suggestions to ensure you have the strongest possible joint between your two printed halves. I did the following and it's performing fantastic:

  • Infill - Increase your Infill higher than what you would usually print my designs with. This will give increased structural integrity.
  • Outer Walls - Some additional outer walls will also improve rigidity.
  • Joint - The joint is designed with a variety of different sections of intersecting geometry. This provides increased surface area and vastly improves strength.
  • Glue Prep - Hit the surfaces of the joint with sandpaper (80 or 120 grit). This roughs up the otherwise smooth surface and allows the super glue to grab far better and form a stronger bond.
  • Glue - Use high quality Super Glue (Cyanocrylate Glue). I personal use Zap-a-gap Green: https://www.barnes.com.au/single-product/zap-a-gap-green/

File Size Note:

These are large parts, so you may need to slice them up smaller to get them to fit on your printer. If you would like to see the size of each part, look the at last image above which is dimensioned. If you print the files that have been split already, you can simply glue the halves together as I have made allowances for the pieces to help slot together nicely if you print them in halves using my provided files.
